Budget Chic DIY for Hearts Day

I was preparing dinner one night and as I opened up one of the canned veggies the cute little pink lightbulb flashed over my head.   Not about dinner...but the empty can.  So, I had Little Miss tear off the wrapper and then I washed the can and sat it on the counter.  Mr. Officer threw it away.  I tried this about 2-3 times again only to have him throw them away (on different days).  But then, it's probably not that easy living with someone who will create anything out of anything!

I started off with the clean can, tissue paper, glittery 12x12 scrapbook paper, glittery magnet, and some candy.  I used the paper trimmer to cut the scrapbook paper down to size (4.25"x10").  With my handy dandy hot glue gun, I wrapped the can with the paper.  Then, I added (not shown above) a lighter glittery strip of paper to the center (see below).  I secured the magnet with a dollop of hot glue, although the magnet worked fine alone. I then added one sheet of tissue paper and my candy...

Voila!

My very own little cute Valentine's Day treat container thingy.  Under five bucks.  This would be a great budget chic treat for the kiddies, co-workers, or friends.  And, an even better V-Day container for a fresh floral arrangement for your desk at work or to give as a simple gift.

Getting Ready for V-Day 2010

At the Planning Diva's house, we have been getting ready for Valentine's day.  Since I have a small one at home, it is really fun preparing for her little school and dance class parties.  The kiddies are always so excited and appreciative. This past Saturday, little miss and I prepared her VDay goodies for both her school class and her dance class.  

We decorated these water bottles for the little dancers to sip on after dance class.

For the party, little miss and I put together these cute treat bags.  Just a few pieces of candy and a tube of lip gloss makes a sweet treat.

My dear and sweet mother-in-law is celebrating her birthday today so little miss and I put together a basket of yummy treats for her to enjoy during this coooold weather.  

Now, we have to work on the fellows at home so that they will feel all sweet and stuff.  What crafty creations are you working on for Valentine's 2010?!

Flowers Always Does the Trick

This arrangement looks really great and would be a great Valentine’s Day gift for your mom, sister, or girlfriend. You can purchase fresh roses from your local florist or wholesale/discount stores such as Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club and arrange them yourself. If you decide to go with a clear glass vase as shown above, add red and white ribbon with a personalized tag.

After School V-day Treat

I saw this on in Better Homes and Gardens and thought that this was a great idea! Whether they are your kids, nieces and nephews- let them know how special they are to you. Flavor milk with strawberry syrup, include some sweep ripe cherries, and trim bread with a heart-shape cookie cutter before making a peanut butter-and-strawberry jelly sandwich.

Set the table with all things red, pink, and white. Companies like Oriental Trading, Wal-Mart, Target, and even dollar stores carry a variety of novelties and décor during this time.

Romantic Ideas

Whatever your age, you can continue to enjoy time spent with each other. Take a look at some creative ideas that you can use to “spice up” your quality time. The best thing about them is they are designed to fit any budget and…any day of the year. Happy Smooching!

1. Give the gift of time (wristwatch) with this inscription: "I'll always have time for you."
2. Arrange Hershey’sâ Kisses in a special message, sprinkle rose pedals around the bedroom floor and in a bathtub of warm and fragranced water, don’t forget to light the candles (if possible, use a variety of candles). What a surprise!

21. Build your lover a web page telling them why you love them so much. Mention special moments and add some images and cool links to topics that interest him. It's been such a long time since I posted. Can you say busy?! BUSY! Hopefully, I will be able to atleast post once a week in order to get a lot out of my head.

I thought that I'd share a V-day treat that you can create in the comfort of your own home to share with your boo:) I only wish that I posted earlier before the day actually made it here. Well, here goes.

If food is the road map to a man’s heart, then whip him up some quick and easy sweetheart pancakes. This is also a great start to the day if you will be serving these to your sweet children.

Here’s how:
Heat frozen pancakes. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut into hearts. Top with the yogurt from fruit-on-the-bottom strawberry yogurt, then with the strawberry mixture from the bottom of the tub. Yummm!

V-Day Bouquet

Are you preparing for a Valentine's Weekend Wedding? If you are and you're incorporating the "Love Month's" colors, here is an inspirational picture that I thought was absolutely gorgeous. I really like the bright and bold colors used in this bouquet. Just Fabulous!

DIY Trinket Box for Valentine's Day

This is a great Valentine’s gift to give to your girlfriends, book club, or co-workers. It’s simple and personalized with love. If you don’t have time to follow the directions below-an alternative to creating the entire box would be to purchase a heart shaped box already decorated and just add ribbon and silk flower with tacky or hot glue and Voila!

What you’ll need:
Heart-shaped cardboard box (appr. 5” wide)
White primer (Krylon)
Pink-striped or other paper to cover
Ribbon for side of lid
Artificial flower for top
Mod Podge matte glue
Tacky glue (Aleene’s Quick Dry)
Foam Brush; small sharp scissors

PRIME outside of box and lid. Let dry.
CUT strips of the paper ¾” wider and longer than box and lid sides. Trace lid top on the paper and cut out shape.
BRUSH Mod Podge onto back of paper strips and apply centered along box and lid sides. Clip into excess every ¼” and fold over edges. Glue paper heart to top of lid.
ATTACH ribbon along side of lid and flower to center top with tacky glue.

Preparing for Valentine's Day

Hello All! It's been such a long time since I last blogged. I guess I had all the time in the world to do this since I was out from work for the Holidays. That's one of the perks of working for a school district-the vacations! Well, I hope that I can post a little bit more while my schedule has started to pick up swiftly.

I am in the process of getting ready for the next holiday which is...Valentine's Day! It's a must that I get my daughter's (Ryan) red and white outfit purchased, make her a new set of hair bows and a bracelet for such a sweet occasion. I love to prepare for holidays that are festive and allows the creativity to flow. So, as I find things that I believe are neat--I'll share them with you.
